A Musical Masterclass: Guildhall School of Music inspires our pupils

This week, we welcomed talented musicians from the world-renowned Guildhall School of Music & Drama  of Music, with their tutor Fraser MacAuley, Deputy Head of Woodwind, Brass and Percussion. Primary Phase pupils were thrilled to see the quintet's incredible instruments, including a bassoon and an oboe. They explored dynamics, the tonal differences of instruments and even learned how to conduct!

The Upper School Concert Band enjoyed a Masterclass in musical excellence led by Mr MacAuley, focusing on listening and communicating when performing in an ensemble as well as insights from the students' experiences of studying at one of the country's top musical conservatoires.

The visit was a wonderful opportunity for pupils taking instrumental lessons to watch, listen and learn from these talented performers. A big thank you to our music department and Mr Barton from Winchester College for organising this enriching day.
